Hi everyone, I know Ive been a bit slack with the updates lately, but I’ve still been flat out with all sorts of new ventures and shenanigans, but the thunder and lightening has inspired me to attempt some kind of update action and half promises to be more diligent. After a successful, first ever, solo show in Melbourne, ‘With A Little Help from my Friends’ opened in Adelaide on Friday the 16th September at the home of my good friends, and (R)Adelaide’s finest shop/gallery for all things hip hop and graff, Cold Krush in Unley Rd,Unley.

In lead up to the long awaited solo show ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ by Sear we were able to grab a few of her precious moments to do a studio visit. Here’s what she had to say…
“Im not into interviews because Im indecisive and generally tend to change opinions from moment to moment.…so this one is a ‘Choose your own Adventure’ interview…”
Can you tell us a little bit about your background, and how you found yourselves interested in the creative culture?
a) I was born to a fish and a bull , into a world of sheep. Was raised by wolves and am now a carnivorous flightless bird in search of wings.
b) Ive been ‘making stuff’ forever..I like to get my hands dirty and figure out why stuff is or does, what stuff is or does. It’s about DIY, not art.
c) Im not really interested in ‘creative culture’ as such..I figure you either do or don’t. Ive been drawing and painting forever..whether it be on paper, canvas or wall.
d) All of the above.
e) None of the above.

What is the meaning behind your show ?
a) Im influenced and inspired by the people around me- their stories, their habits and our connection…people fascinate and amuse me. Thought id share is all.
b) The interconnectedness of humans, animals, icons, words, stories, etc blah blah…Illustrative collage and juxtaposition.
c) Life binges and Creative purges.
d) All of the above.
e) None of the above.

Why did you choose this particular colour palette for this show?
a) I use what is available to me at the time.
b) Colours are chosen to invoke moods, feelings, memories etc both for the piece itself or for the viewers.
c) Im ADD and lazy and a terrible paint mixer so Im basically ‘colour wheel 101’. A few complimentary, obnoxious colours ‘grounded’ by lots of browns and ALWAYS black.
d) All of the above.
e) None of the above.

How do you feel about this body of work opposed to your last body of work?
a) Ive never actually HAD a ‘body of work’.
b) This one is built for comfort not speed.
c) Im starting to merge my cartoon world with my impression world now, rather than sticking to one or the other..its a meeting of my different personas. This could get loose!
d) All of the above.
e) None of the above.

What do you feel, makes your work different from everybody elses?
a) Im not precious about my work and don’t plan much of it..Its kinda like a brainstorm or ‘geister blitz’ on canvas. I am happy to work it and try new things and then rework it ,when it stuffs up. Because of the nature of my mess, I have to just kinda see what ‘it ‘wants to do. Luckily it works out most times.
b) once its done(which it never is), Im over it.
c) Im the kid that always got in trouble for touching ‘proper’ art, so I like to make pieces that you want to and can touch, turn, crank, cock your head at, poke and that ‘does’ something besides just stare back at you. Everytime you look at one, you should discover something else going on beyond the obvious. Also, I paint other peoples stories not necessarily my own.
d) All of the above.
e) None of the above.

What is next for you? What does the future hold?
a) The future is so bright- I gotta wear shades.
b) Life- More animals-less people. Art- More moving parts!!!
c) All my friends are breeding finally, so Id love to do a kids book of some sort…maybe of ‘The Rules’. This will also be available to school ‘adults’.
d) This show will be headed to my homies at Cold Krush in Adelaide in September, then have got a few things lined up for QLD and Perth by end of year or early next..Then Ladie Killerz, Perth in 2012 and lots of group shows in between…hopefully some overseas adventures and a six pack as well!
e) All of the above.
f) None of the above.

What do you think influences you the most in regards to your art?
a) Life. The good the bad and the ugly.
b) Humour/Satire.
c) People. Memories.
d) Humanity.
e) Sayings,wordplay and cliches.

Is there anyone in the art world, you think people should be looking out for?
a) Always look out for anyone that reps the HKC and UGH crews. Quiet drunken achievers and last minute rulers.
b) Painting; Ladie Poise – should be getting more props than she does for sure also ISIS – is a quiet tornado that should be watched as well and ISHK from Adelaide will win your heart… real keeping real.
c) AV: Joske the Hater for all things audio and visual
d) My sensai DVATE and homies SURGE from San Diego, STOPEM and MARINE, the Safehouse Studios and ADN, ID, SDM kids……um…hell, there are heaps..keep your eyes in the backs of your heads and your ears to the ground!
e) All of the above and then some!
