Geelong Powerhouse Project

SEAR dec2014
SEAR Geelong Powerhouse Dec 2014 #dumbwaystodie

Last week I was asked by good mate and fellow artists DUKE/STYLE and Brett Fanning to participate in a HUGE graffiti jam in Geelong at an abandoned and neglected powerhouse.

New owner Ian has resurrected this beautiful building and with a little help from his friends , is turning this amazing space into a desperately needed arts hub for the Geelong region.

Over 50+ artists turned up on the weekend to camp, converse and paint this awesome space. The creative energy was palpable and the outcome of just 1 weekend out of many until complete, was phenomenal! I know that I lifted my game because i was pushed and encouraged by crew and fellow graffiti artists from all over Australia and even some overseas guests!

I cant wait to get back there and paint some more and help with the clean up and transformation of a much needed space. I may even end up begging for studio space 😉 How can you beat a HUGE cathedral like space, right on the beach that you can paint freely and large and even park up my bus if needed 😉

So exciting!!! A HUGE thank you to Ian and his helpers/partners for the invitation and to DUKE and Brett for all their hard work and organisation and to SIGMA 80 paint for the dopest shades and pressure available in Oz!!

More photos to come of all the amazing work!

Graham Street Port Melbourne gets a makeover!

For years the residents of Graham St. and its surrounds, have voiced their concerns regarding the safety and ‘ugliness’ of the Graham St. underpass and now skatepark. The dark and dingy thoroughfare for light rail commuters and the recreational area for the young people of Port Melbourne has been an ongoing concern that has either been put in the ‘too hard’ basket or just ignored….UNTIL NOW! Port Phillip council recently hired 8 of Melbourne’s prolific graffiti artists and youth mentors to give the area under the Graham St bridge a colourful makeover. Launching TODAY (29th November 2014) from 2pm-5pm, the finished artworks have transformed the area from an antisocial, intimidating hovel to a welcoming, bright, colourful, fun and safe feeling space that the youth of the area can call ‘home’ when away from home.

I finished 2 complete pillars on my own and collaborated with the amazingly talented artist (and my treasured friend) D.ROQ -(formerly known as ISIS) on another 4.

Community feedback over the 2 weeks of painting was nothing but positive! People tend to forget how much we are affected by our environments…changes WILL affect moods and behaviour.

If you have a neglected area in your neighbourhood that you think could do with a colour blast, contact me or your local council and get them to contact me at searious.jones@gmail.com.

Fat Tomato Pizza- Latest Upton St property to get a makeover by SEARious Jones!

SEAR- FAT TOMATO PIZZA 2014

Fat Tomato pizza is the latest in the Upton Street Altona properties to jump n the SEARious bandwagon with their new OPEN(window) and CLOSED(roller door) signs taking things to a new level. Across from a primary school its only natural that proprietors and residents alike would want to brighten up and make friendly this once dark dingy and dangerous back street in the beach side suburb. Special thanks to Nick and Rami and all the workers there for their support and patience over the last 2 weeks! (and the AWESOME pizzas!)

Upton St Altona has undergone a transformation in the past 2 years. With the exception of 3 properties along the main business corridor, ALL the shops/residences in UPTON STREET, ALTONA have succumbed to the visual charms of SEARious Jones.

A resident was the first to hire me to beautify their courtyard, then it snowballed from there! I have now painted that same resident’s house (Hi Justine! 🙂 ) twice now also doing a mural of flowers and her dog on her back alley wall.

Ladie Killerz 5 Posted on March 30, 2012 by Nicole in News The ladies are at it again with Ladie Killerz 5, a weekend long festival, celebrating ladies and their killer skills in all things art, music, film and especially graffiti. This annual event started 5 years ago with a collective of like minded, graffiti loving, girls with a taste for trouble, a need to paint, a love of the party and a hankering for a change of scenery. This year Perth will be playing host to Ladie Killerz 5 with an Art Exhibition and the sole reason why this event exists a massive Paint Jam with some of the most talented female graffiti artists from across Australia. The Ladie Killerz 5 Art Exhibition will feature graffiti inspired artworks by Australia’s most prolific graffiti, street and lowbrow artists.
